Vocabulary: Spring List 2

1. accoutrements- additional items of dress or equipment, or other items carried or worn by a person or used for a particular activity
ex. Swimmers use accoutrements in order to help them swim faster.
2. apogee- the highest point in the development of something; the climax or culmination
ex. Micheal Jordan is an apogee in the NBA.
3. apropos- with reference to; concerning
ex. When playing guitar you apropos tablature to play music.
4. bicker- argue about petty and trivial matters
ex. Children always seem to bicker when playing.
5. coalesce- come together and form one mass or whole
ex. Sporting events coalesce the school chanting their team.
6. contretemps- an unexpected and unfortunate occurrence
ex. Being in a car accident is always contretemps.

7. convolution- a coil or twist, esp. one of many
ex.  Snakes often kill their prey with convolutions.
8. cull- select from a large quantity; obtain from a variety of sources
ex. Medicine culled from many types of flower.  
9. disparate- essentially different in kind; not allowing comparison
ex. Some people says that you cannot disparate between God and the Devil
10. dogmatic- inclined to lay down principles as incontrovertibly true
ex. Teachers try not to be dogmatic to their students when explaining something.
11. licentious- promiscuous and unprincipled in sexual matters
ex. People who are licentious are said to have low self control.
12. mete- dispense or allot justice, a punishment, or harsh treatment
ex. Murder can set a mete with little remorse.
13. noxious- harmful, poisonous, or very unpleasant
ex. Gasoline and bleach can cause some people to be noxious.
14. polemic- a strong verbal or written attack on someone or something
ex. To some people the Deceleration of Independence is considered a polemic.
15. populous- having a large population; densely populated
ex. India is a populous country.
16. probity- the quality of having strong moral principles; honesty and decency
ex. Humble people are most of the time probity men.
17. repartee- conversation or speech characterized by quick, witty comments or replies
ex. Youtube has comments that always seem to have repartee.
18. supervene- occur later than a specified or implied event or action, typically in such a way as to change the situation
ex. My friend always seem to supervene when we talk about going somewhere.
19. truncate- shorten (something) by cutting off the top or the end
ex. Cigars are truncates because of how they're made.
20. unimpeachable- not able to be doubted, questioned, or criticized; entirely trustworthy
ex. Kings in the past believed to be unimpeachable.
